Thanks for the link Aidan. I'd love to hear if you've any ideas on how to make it even better.
    Cheers,

No problem. I suggest adding a blog to the website so I can subscribe to updates by rss.

Btw, links in twitter posts are *way* more useful with the plugin installed. I used to skip most of them. Now I find myself following them more often because I have some context to go on.

    >> "Appropriate user are where space is restricted e.g. twitter messages or the link is so long it wraps over multiple lines in a text document. Otherwise don't shorten it"

The only appropriate use is a 'temporary' url (be it twitter/email etc.).

You're write - I meant to write email rather than text document.

And I meant to write 'right' rather than write.

    Bang on Aidan.

Funnily enough I find it most annoying in services like Twitter. I subscribe to O'Reilly Radar via RSS and follow Tim O'Reilly on Twitter. He cross-posts and it isn't always clear if the shortened link he uses in Twitter is to a Radar post I've already read.

Maybe sites like Twitter just need to be smarter about URLs.

Twitter is especially annoying because it automatically converts any link that is longer than 30 chars to a tinyurl whether you want it to or not.

Thanks Aidan, I'll consider putting together a blog to announce updates etc. For the moment I'll make announcements on twitter - http://twitter.com/longurlplease (low volume)

    Hey Aidan,
I've set up a blog (http://longurlplease.blogspot.com/), moved the add-on to mozilla add-on site (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/...) and added a bookmarklet so that users of any browsers can benefit from longurlplease.
Perhaps you'd like to do a guest post to the blog (something along the lines of your misusing-tinyurls post)?

    Cheers,
    Darragh

Have to say I find the tiny links a little annoying as I like to see the domain name when someone has mentioned a post on twitter or a blog. It saves me the time on click through to a post I have already seen. A lot of people on twitter repackage the same news in a different way. Aaaahhh social marketing

You have to use short urls. It helps with the sites SEO,
